It is an old story. Rangappa, a very famous Kathakkali dancer from a Village in Kerala, used to perform every Friday on stage, and many people used to enjoy his performance. He was an inborn actor and Kathakkali was flowing in his blood like water flows inside mother earth! He used to bring life to his act just with expressions and without using a single word!
It was another Friday, all people from village including queen, gathered that night to watch him performing. Queen, the queen of the Royal King of the kingdom, had seen Rangappa many times performing him on the stage, and was addicted to him. She felt, she is in love with him! Love or attraction?
Today, she decided to meet him personally.
Rangappa, with his kathakkali costume, and a spectacular make up, was all set ready to perform "Nal-Damayanti" on stage. Chandramma, a fair and down to earth lady, was his counter part in the act performing Damayanti. She was also an inborn actress. She was also ready.
Curtain opened, act started. Nal (Rangappa), with all capable expressions, expressed his love for Damayanti (Chandramma)! Damayanti reciprocated the same for Nal!
People watching them remained stunned! Qeen felt herself Damayanti. The scene was so live, every person watching them, thought, they were in real love! Queen thought, if he (Rangappa) loves her so much that the way he performed on stage, then she would be the happiest lady in kingdom! She was ready to leave all her comfort for his unspoken expressive love!
Act over. Rangappa vanished suddenly. Queen saw him walking in dark. Her love for him made her to follow him. She followed. Rangappa went to a local liquor shop. Drunk full to his capacity. Started walking. Queen followed! Rangappa reached home, wife opened the door. Queen stood outside the home. Few minutes passed. Queen listened abusive slang, quarrel. Rangappa beaten his wife badly. Queen asked neighbours, and came to know that, that was the regular drama. It was damn disappointing and shocking for her!
Her unspoken Love with all the dreams lost somewhere faraway down!
She returns with smiling (and sometimes Sad) face!
Moral of the story: Face on the stage and face behind the stage is always different! Before loving a character on the stage, always see his real face behind the Stage!
